Annie Hsiao-Ching Wang received her practice-based PhD in Art from the University of Brighton (UK). She has been enthusiastically and intensively studied on the issues related women’s identity, creativity and visual culture in her artworks and research since 1992. She specializes in the art of photography, oil painting, mix media and installation. Currently, she is not only a professional artist and a director of Ching Tien Art Space, but also dedicated herself in college art education. She works part-timely as an assistant professor at Department of Arts and Design, National Dong Hwa University.

Since Ms. Wang’s successful exhibition of “Wedding Process” at Taipei Fine Arts Museum in 1997, she started obtained attentions of artist critics and also started several solo and group exhibitions in Taiwan and England. In 2002, she was selected as “The New Generation Female Artist of Image Art” in the book of The History of (Contemporary) Taiwan Women Artists. In 2011, she was proudly awarded “the Outstanding Alumni” from the University of Taipei.

In the recent years, Ms. Wang was invited to be the artist to stand for Taiwan by three international photography festivals in Manchester (UK), Novosibirsk State Art Museum (Russia) and Ulsan (Korea). In 2012, her artworks were selected to exhibit at “Yes, Taiwan: 2012 Taiwan Biennial “by the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts. Also, Ms. Wang was selected as one of four female photographers by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan to promote the different perspective of beauty of Taiwan to the world. Her works stand out among many other excellent female photographers and have been selected as “Judge’s special recommendation” because the series of her works are so original and dramatic. From 2004, her works of “The Mother as a Creator” and “Relative Measure” exhibit and touch people’s hearts for many countries in the world.

My Son and I at the Same Height
I wanted to create an imaginary horizontal line establishing a height for both my son and I. Rather than make it a scientific activity like Eadweard Muybridge, I wanted to use the formal conventions of the family photograph - the Happy Snap. This is a project that is in progress as my son learns how to walk and beyond.
