Hsin Jen Wang (Aluan) graduated from New Media Department, Taipei National University of the Arts , specializes in multimedia design. His creation is AudioVisual performances. Since 2010, Aluan is actively involved in the promotion of free software with OpenLab Taipei, and also designs interactive images for theater and dance performances.

Born in Shengang, Taichung in 1982, Aluan Wang left home against his family’s objection and moved to Taipei for high school education. It was where his artistic career began. After graduating from college, he served the compulsory military service at National Taiwan Museum. During his service, he assisted many art/culture related events held by the museum. After the military service, he got his first job at TECHART as an art designer, where he participated in several large-size installation art projects. The working experiences at TECHART have greatly benefitted his future career in terms of art education and exhibition management.

After several years of working, he decided to return to school for advanced studies. He thus enrolled in the MFA program of New Media Art at Taipei University of the Arts with an emphasis on interactive art. During his master’s studies, he exhibited several sound art projects in spaces other than museums. Apart from his artistic practice, he also participated in OpenLab Taipei with an attempt to promote art-making through open-resources. His sound art Moving Resonance (2011) was nominated at PdCon 2011, an art event held by Das staatiche Bauhaus Weimar in Germany. In the same year, he received Honorable Mention Award for Emerging Artists in Xinbei City with the same work. In 2012, his Dynamized Center 2.0 won him the First Prize at Digital Art Festival Taipei.

Wang currently works as a full-time artist with frequent presence at museums, where he leads several workshops to promote open resources for art-making, believing that digital art can be more accessible to the public.

Moving Resonance
Moving Resonance is a digital sound art trilogy created with three pre-set algorithms, including Self-division, The Selective Choice, and The Flowing Body. The work is inspired by the artist’s personal experiences, while the three algorithms applied to the three parts can be understood as the artist’s philosophy of life. A recursion-like algorithm is repetitively used in the work. “Recursion” refers to a method of defining functions in which the function being defined is applied within its ow ...

Dynamized Center
The artist attempts to simulate how rays of light expand from the center to create a dialogue-like relation. Since the direction and the distance of the projecting light are not clear, the dialogue-like relation can be terminated at any coordinates. Meanwhile, the receivers can interpret the messages through the vague dialogue in any way they prefer. Each dialogue becomes the starting point of imagination. In the real-time interactive AudioVisual artwork, the artist creates an interface to ma ...

Expending
In the performance of Expending, the artist keeps painting various geometric shapes on the screen. Meanwhile, the block diagram transforms the coordinates of each spot into corresponding sound. The process is strictly following compass and straightedge constructions. While the two symmetrical chords reach a simple integer ratio, the music scale will be arranged into an interesting melody of harmony.
