Lo Sheng-Wen (1987-) was born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. He began his visual/audio research in 2011 during his studies in the Computer Music Laboratory of National Taiwan University, where he received his master’s degree in 2012. Currently he studies in the Master Photography program of AKV|St.Joost art academy in the Netherlands. Lo Sheng-Wen explores contemporary human-animal relationships through still and moving images. The project “White Bear” explores animal exhibits by focusing on polar bears in captivity in the world. “Fallout” observed the markings of 2000+ nuclear tests since 1945 and their effects on the biosphere. “Persian Dogs” reflects Iran’s social conflict between traditional teachings and new viewpoints. His ongoing project “MELK” studies the Dutch dairy industry, and the relationship between product images and milk farming. His recent works will be exhibited in EYE, film museum of Amsterdam, as well as LianZhou International Photo Festival in China. He believes that everyone has the potential to engage social or environmental issues through his or her own practice, creating works in the process. For instance, scientific studies can have artistic values, and vise versa.

Fallout
Since 1945, there have been more than 2000 nuclear tests worldwide. Oftentimes the test sites are so remote that people ignore the existence of the events. But the tests do exist. Fallout and radiation have left these sites undisturbed by humans, while it is for that reason that some of them became animal sanctuaries. In the first stage of the project “Fallout”, landscapes containing markings of these tests are assembled. 3D satellite imageries are constructed through collecting historical co ...

Persian Dogs
Nowadays in Iran, collisions between traditional Islamic teachings and new viewpoints are ubiquitous. The status of the Iranian (Persian) dogs reflects these conflicts. One can rarely see dogs on the streets of Tehran, since police will shoot them after they are reported. The teachings made it difficult for the dogs, and there were attempts to make ownership illegal in recent years. As stated in the Sahih Hadith “Angels will not enter a house wherein there is a dog … ”, “Prayer is annulled by ...

White Bear
White Bear depicts polar bears and their captivity environments in the world; it also attempts to shed light on the corresponding zoological issues. White Bear is not about polar bears — it studies the visible symptoms amid animals and their artificial habitats by focusing on one specific species. These enclosures, constructed to mimic the bears' habitat, are bizarre combinations of “nature” and “stage”. So far the project was executed in 10 countries and 24 enclosures, including Europe and C ...
