Born in Penghu, Taiwan in 1972, Lee Ji-Hong has a bachelor’s degree from National Taiwan University of the Arts’ Department of Fine Arts and a Master of Arts from Long Island University in New York. In 1998, together with his college classmates, Lee co-founded the artist collective, National Oxygen, with the group’s vision being expressing artistic concepts through group or individual art endeavors and the exploration of any other possible approaches. In 2004, he and Lai Chih-Sheng co-founded the On-Works Multimedia Co., Ltd., with the aim at exploring the possible links between art and everyday life.

Lee’s creative concept includes contents inspire by the experiences that the physical body endures in the realistic space-time, with the search for the body’s position and meaning in life through repetitions of seemingly simple or meaningless everyday actions. Some of these actions include walking on the Regent Taipei plaza for 24 hours, sweeping fallen leaves on the city’s traffic divisional island, and wiping the windows at IT Park Gallery for a month. Lee creates predominately photography or video installations, and has held solo exhibitions at Taipei’s IT Park Gallery and Eslite Gallery.

About《May’s Work 2013》
A peaceful park in the midst of havoc. Imagine the enigmatic martial art moves practiced by the Shaolin masters, with them sweeping fallen leaves on the ground day after day, which reminds me of what Chien-chung said in the film, The Gangster (note), “We keep asking: what is the ultimate fighting technique?” Note: Referring to the video work, The Gangster (2012), by Nation Oxygen

About《April’s Work 2013》
The Taipei Main Station is a turning point. From this point forward, I could reach the other end where visions could be actualized. From this point on, I could return to the starting point of where all the visions first began. By walking backwards, a sense of unexpected anxiety is confronted initially and followed by strange looks from pedestrians that I run into, as they try to dodge and also look back. I could only walk backwards in accordance with the rhythm.

About《April’s Work 2013》
I’ve heard of a curator talked about a romantic artist, who would show up at his own exhibition everyday to play his artwork for the audience. I then began to think if I could have the chance to become a romantic artist as well. I could go to It Park, where my exhibition is about to open and do one thing there. And that one thing would be to wipe the windows.

About《September’s Work 2012》
This is a game for testing out a day’s luck, with me wondering about how many red and green signals I would encounter on the way to work today. Perhaps, it will be smooth sailing all the way, and I would arrive in 15 minutes. If the traffic is hectic, it will require an additional of two minutes before I could start the day’s work.
