Lin Kun-Ying was born in Hualien in 1980 and graduated from the Graduate School of New Media Art, Taipei National University of the Arts. His life is one of the best examples of the concept of hybrid. A classical musician since his childhood, he excels in playing the flute and music theory. He received his training in philosophy in college while he developed a passion in art at the same time. In the graduate school, he began his creative career in technological art. All these experiences interlace with each other and are reflected in his logic, his way of thinking and the development of his career. After many years of creative works, this hybrid background shows an highly individualistic and poetic quality of the artist, which is fully fused into the art pieces he created—simple and pure choices of colors, neat visual structure, philosophical, reflective of his contemplation on nature. Sometimes, there are even characteristic, lively textual descriptions of his works. All these features are highly distinctive. The field-crossing experience helps him to be outstanding when he collaborates with artists from different fields, including dancing, theater and classical music. It also prepares him to integrate his talent in new media art with these different forms art with a sense of perfection. He had individual exhibitions at Etat Lab and Galerie Grand Siècle, and has won the 2008 Taipei Arts Award with his work “Sea-ing and One Hundred Stories of the Sea.” Now he is one of the members of art group “LuxuryLogico”.
