Chen Chih-Chien was born in Yulin in 1979 and graduated from the Graduate School of New Media Art, Taipei National University of the Arts, specializes in creative images. In the era of digital images, the issue of multiple time in the same space has been widely discussed by many foreign and Taiwanese artists. However, this issue is expressed with a fraction of sorrow and a sense of quiet beauty in Chen’s works without focusing on the means of representing the images and the techniques of programming. When one puts oneself in his space of images, time does not move in a lineal way and space steps out of the limit of formality, allowing the viewers to recreate their memories and experiences that they have stored in their brains, in their sub-conscious or unconscious in a different way. With the help of sport filming device and image cutting programs, he compresses time and space in a space of an image, translating differences of time into different pieces of memories. In his works, there are the momentary glimpses, such as a corner of a city, a slice of natural landscape, or even a part of a building. In these glimpses, we could “listen to” the movement of time, “touch” the body of a misplaced space. The artist had exhibitions at Etat Lab and IT Park, etc., and has won the 2006 Taipei Arts Award with his work titled “Date Line.” Now he is one of the members of art group “LuxuryLogico”.

Flowing Pride
2008
About my method of survival in the urban drift This work attempts to describe the process of positioning oneself in a city through fragments of visual memory. In this memory, the climate is hazy, and the viewpoint is vertical. It is an airborne position, as well as a habitual method of observation. And by intentionally allowing for physical metamorphosis, it facilitates entry into a representation of my thinking space. The succession is arranged vertically according viewpoint, keeping ...

Miscarriage of Time
We experience time.  We hold expectations of time, but they are never fulfilled.
The apple has fallen from the tree and has embarked on a journey like this. This is a perfect apple, having all the qualities of what we think to be in an apple. Placing the apple in an environment with moderate temperature, humidity and proper light, the molecules which compose the apple will deliver nutrients throughout its entirety, giving its outer skin a luscious paprika-like redness and prov ...

Ripple
The artist’s concept focuses on a line of time and the philosophy of time through the practice of dividing and re-arranging it. The main picture of “Ripple”’ is composed by divided time frame and re-presents city landscape. From time to time, the artist is looking for unattended time lost in the city and film/record them for one whole day. Through filming, the blooming of a plant in the corner is captured, and captured images are restructured in a concentric circle. All those surreal images o ...
