Laza WU Tzu-Ning is a creator who plays variable roles in the art world and also keeps changing her styles in real life. We can see variety and diversity of Laza’s works as compounds of her multiple styles of creations. Mixed media installation works with theatrical and literary qualities of materiality “concrete poetry” are created in the early years, and then she turns to new media works as combinations of video projections, interactive performances, and other different forms of elements. She is good at achieving the “mise-en-scène” between the display of works, the audiences, and sometimes the artist herself. She brings up the questions of life and doubts of society rules conceptually through her artworks. She believes that there is no so-called "mediatized" body, with respect to the soul and will, the body is the medium. From the "Cyberbeings"(2003) to "Mind Your Body"(2011) solo exhibition, Laza explores presentations and performances of “the body as a medium," takes the body as container of the soul and extension of the will, and continue to question "the post-human body" issue with her research and creations.

The Post-Venus Flytrap Project
“This plant, commonly called Venus’ fly-trap, from the rapidity and force of its movements, is one of the most wonderful in the world.” — Charles Darwin Dionaea muscipula, commonly called “Venus’ Flytrap”, because the prickly hairs on the edges of the leaves are like eyelashes of Venus. The active trapping habits of insectivorous plants are different from those of ordinary plants that are considered passive victims of the species hierarchy. In the Post-Venus Flytrap Project, the artist ...

Metaverse 2.0
The name “metaverse” is the combination of “meta” and “universe,” which was first coined by Neal Stephenson in his sci-fi novel, Snow Crash, published in 1992. It is used to describe a post-internet world that is a space of meta-information—a mixture of virtual space and reality similar to today’s XR, or cross reality (VR, AR, MR). Metaverse 2.0 is produced after ten sessions of “Doomsday Object Workshop” held in the first stage of the project and brings together personal objects and doomsday ...

Insomnia Web
A poetic installation of Hypertext and physical Concrete poetry, and the main symbol and element of this work is “hair”. Dangling cables from the ceiling, hanging bars of black wax, human hair coated ladder, sofa and bed, fabric out of the surrealistic scene. There is a saying “three thousand strands of worry” which hair is also a symbol of the anxiety between sleep and half-awake with insomnia, and the hair puncture out of gauze make the hair-coated bed and sofa too tingling to rest.
