Chu-Yin CHEN is a professor at the “Ecole Doctorale Esthétique, Sciences et Technologies des Arts“ (PhD College of Aesthetic, Sciences and Technologies of the Arts) and the “Master Arts et technologies de l’image virtuelle“ (Master of Arts and Technologies of Virtual Pictures) of the University Paris 8.
Born in Taiwan in 1962, she arrived in France in 1987 and gets the diploma of the Beaux-Arts school of Paris in 1991. Then, she directs her research towards the new technologies, and becomes Doctor in “Aesthetics, Science and Technologies of Arts” in 2001.
Strong of its cultural origins, Chu-Yin CHEN belongs to a very original current that lies at the crossroad of artistic creation, biology and Artificial Life. Her movies and her interactive installations result from programs based on the theory of complexity and on software technologies enabling to study the process of the living. CHEN Chu-Yin’s approach of arts and sciences follows a very appealing way. She uses the vector of art to build an innovating conception that allies the traditional Chinese thought to the occidental philosophy.
