This artwork is based on the image of the Formosa sika deer. It is partly inspired by the artist’s experience of encountering a herd of sika deer on Green Island in 2009, with their eyes like fairies of nature glistening under the moonlight. The artwork is also a continuation of the artist’s exploration with mythical creatures. The overall contour of the piece is created with cutout shapes made with a reflective metallic material, including the shape of a sika deer, religious totems from the artist’s extensive records, and structures resembling wood. The sculpture is first physically simplified into planes and then the planes are juxtaposed and crisscrossed to form a space, with the sense of space created with overlapping materials and combinations of shapes. Also embodied by the piece is a story being conveyed.
