Daily Life Portrait Ι is thematically about the living environment of the inhabitants living around the No. 6 Naphtha Cracking Plant, Yunlin County, in the middle of Taiwan. The artist designates the local inhabitants’ houses as the metaphor of “inhabitants’ portrait.” As the images portray, this Plant, located in back of their houses, serves as background of the houses, haunting the people of this area everywhere. By so doing, this attempts to highlight the realistic life situation of the local residents. Under the industrial-oriented economic development mode, the local inhabitants, however, cannot fight against the entrepreneurs, especially in the face of the living environment that gets worse and worse. Although this problem may not occur in the modern city, the artist wishes to make the inhabitants situation seen and visible through his work. No doubt, this will compel us to rethink the relevant issues about living rights in the post-industrial society.
