I am committed to becoming a “Chinese fairy” artist. Born in Taipei, I currently work in Taipei as a professional illustrator, and am also engaged in installation art, drawing being my primary art medium. In terms of my creation approach, I draw endless inspiration and stimulation from life, including friends’ personal stories. I mainly rely on my personal experience for the staple of my works. My approach of drawings & narratives is reminiscent of “I-Novel”, so my works can be seen as manifestation of personal realism.
In Chinese culture, “Fairies” have always served as the template of a perfect woman. Throughout myths, religions and literature, one can see such recurring appearances of fairies that they have since become a cultural symbol. After my graduation in 2013, instead of seeking secure and regular employment, I committed myself to becoming a fairy. I began with the image of conventional fairies, attending Tainan fairies auditions. Such role-play process was conducive to echoing fairy characters in Chinese literature. Back to the contemporary era, I shifted the stage to the Internet, looking for representatives of contemporary fairies. By way of imagination, simulation and participation, I want to put myself in the shoes of Taiwan’s young generation of girls and experience their difficulties and confusion first-hand.
