Born in 1988, Taiwan, Chia-Yun Wu is an artist and filmmaker. She received an MA degree in Visual Communication from the Royal College of Art and an MFA degree in Motion Pictures from the National Taiwan University of Arts. In order to explore the materiality of images, she has conducted the experiments and practice in transmedia. Through the technique of film narration, mise en scène and cinematic language that reconstructs the context, it alters the image and sound of film into spatial installation and develops moving images that penetrate different mediums. In addition to the expansion of images, Wu also make fiction films. She uses characters and plots to narrate the indescribable life stories and discuss the sense of belonging, freedom, and human condition, reflecting the turbulence under the peace and unveiling the unseeable nature of spirits.

Wu’s first film has been included in The European Independent Film Channel (France, 2015). She has exhibited new works internationally, including Proyector Festival de Videoarte (Spain, 2019), European Media Art Festival, (Germany, 2020), Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin (France, 2021), Fine Arts Film Festival (USA, 2022), London Short Film Festival (UK, 2022) and received the qualification of British Academy of Film and Television Awards. Her works have been screened at some important institutions, including Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, Auditorium du Louvre in Paris, and the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin amongst others, and recently, she has been longlisted for the Aesthetica Art Prize (UK, 2022). Wu has participated in artist residency programs initiated by Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec & Ciné Tapis Rouge (Canada, 2022), and NIDA. Meeting photography (Lithuania, 2022).
