That I would become an artist is by chance, but also destined. After graduating with a major in anthropology from National Taiwan University, I went to France, bringing with me a mood of looking for le Petit Prince and participated in the admission test of École des Beaux-Arts Nantes Saint-Nazaire just to try it out. Just like that, I dove into the art world, determining the path for the rest of my life.
After completing my DNSEP at the of École des Beaux-Arts Nantes Saint-Nazaire and Université Paris VIII, I returned to Taiwan in 2004 and began living as a professional artist. I exhibited my first project on the barter economy, a series of work exploring interpersonal relationships through exchanging small figures, made out of metal wires and papier-mâché, for paper heart cutouts made by spectators. I continued holding solo exhibitions and participating in different forms of group exhibitions, accumulating a rich experience of art residencies and symposiums both in Taiwan and internationally. In June 2012, I felt that art is too far removed from life, so I created a handmade brand Nightmare 612 and begin life as a stall vendor around Taiwan and Macau. In 2014, I started a new project on the barter economy. Facing my decreasing time in life, I try my best see and learn about the different cities that exist on this earth and the people that live in these cities, about their ways of thinking, lifestyle, personality, habits, values, etc. Through the format of bartering, I trade artworks for a one-month living space in foreign cities. Since my first month in Beijing from April to May of 2014, I hope that this project can continually successfully until the end of my life.
