Lo Chiao-Ling was born in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1981. She received her Master’s Degree in Fine Arts from the Taipei National University of the Arts in 2009. Childhood memories and the people she had contact with in her life are inspiration for her artworks. She believes that there is a child who lives in everybody’s mind. By depicting the image of the child, she aims to capture the innocence and sincerity that everybody has owned once. By the way of creating these works, she represents the glorious and warm feelings from her memories. Lo Chiao-Ling has repeatedly attended international exhibitions, including “MIDEM – The World's Music Market” in Cannes, France, in 2007 and “Asia Hotel Art Fair Hong Kong 2013” in Hong Kong. Her works Students (2010) and Play with Me (2008) have been collected by the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts.
“There is a child hidden in your body. He/she might be the real you, or the ‘you’ forgotten by you.”
If you still remember –
When it comes to human expression, I try to visualize the innocence deeply engraved on my mind that once made me feel like a child or the sincerity that we all once had in a certain period of time. Among these children in my paintings, some of them hide their identities as grownups so I only capture their child-like behaviors. Some of them show their melancholy, some of them show their hope in their gaze, while some of the naughty ones never cease playing tricks. When you stand face-to-face in front of all these various expressions, it seems that you exchange the hidden secret with them. Sometimes, you realize that you once were that child who had beautiful fantasies and realities. Therefore, I start to paint, to remember each of them and to let everyone see these children.
