Photographic Art

Established in April 2015, Tainan Street Observer is hosted by Ming-yueh Tsai, Mu-jung Chiu. Designated to redefine the relationship between people and city: It appeals participants to visit sites in person and conduct interlaced observations and recordings in different contexts and backgrounds so as to develop their own interpretation and definition of a city. Then, the above-mentioned observations are transformed into suitable forms and place in the original space so that the field can continuously generate more dialogues and discussions.

Observation of Tainan walls

Tainan has many old city walls, seemly forgotten at the corners of the hustling city. The observers walk along the walls from the first gate established as their starting point. The participants were classified into two groups who complete one circle of the observation by going toward opposite directions. Observation of city marks

2016

Graffiti artists in Tainan were invited to guide the observers to see their graffiti. While observing the routes with graffiti, the participants also collected "marks" which could be artificially created patterns, traces left behind by someone thoughtlessly, or "patterns" whose signified was changed and the original intention did not exist. The participants were expected to develop new street impression in their minds while reading "marks".

Tour at the Canal: Observation of the fish market

There are controversy ideas on if the old fish market of Tainan shall be dismantled. If so, the original landscape along the canal will be changed indirectly. The participants observed the "eight beautiful scenery" along the canal which is a common official marketing technique. Specifications on the Observation of Yongle Narcissus

Observation was conducted "on the road". Could ideas be extended "on the road"? This "Observation Specifications" is derived from the observation of Yongle Market and Narcissus Palace. The participants analyzed their route, and discussed with locals.
