Graduating from the Graduate Institute of Plastic Arts at Tainan National University of the Arts, Ding Yu-Chung’s artistic practice focuses on the reactive response to social behaviors. Between 2008 and 2010, he has adopted subjects such as compulsory military service to reveal the contradictory and acceptance. Since 2011, he has continuously explored the sensitive intensity of conflict or provocation. Ding Yu-Chung likes to intentionally deal with a fake conflict as some mockery game. Although it is not a real conflict, it can be regarded as the preparation stage of the conflict. The purpose of mockery is to intentionally provoke, creating a humorous joke when one imagines the conflict. A beautiful imagination of life or a habitual behavior at the moment immediately becomes a power of destruction at one single turn. The uncomfortableness being produced is transformed into a full-view of the complicated life, allowing viewers to obtain a feeling of daily familiarity.
