Sculpture

Born in Yunlin County, Wang has ever received formal education of sculpture in Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara in Italy. Wang not only attended workshop worldwide and domestic but also joined competitions, now being associate professor in National Taiwan University of The Arts. He has close connection to development of stone sculpture in Hualien. On occasion, he often led students to explore Hualien, the hometown of stone sculpture.

Wang uses embossed sculpture as main idea of creation, applying newly-innovative skill of spilling which brings stone lusters an intense contrast of black and white. Therefore, his works combines both of modern and primitive arts, presenting multi-geometric patterns. Wang’s expertise lies in intangible expression; therefore, he does not give his works titles but numbers only, from which his audiences do brainstorm and develop infinite imagination. Wang suggests, by opening black box of creation, to enlarge people’s vision. With promotion of creating stone materials, people would dedicate and contribute accordingly.

Wang articulates, using simple square blocks and body language to deliver interrelation and feelings between people. Despite tiny as pupas, people strive for living, facing challenges in life. Fragile people will become strong because they can cream. Everyone is like a pupa in this universe, but a pupa still may find a grand world of its own.
