Continuing the“Express/Messenger Project”which explores the Kinmen emigrants whereabouts, this time, I brought the letters of my family elders and came to the Tiong Bahru area in Singapore, where the earliest public housing is established, and I tried to referred to the blurred handwritten address on the envelopes but could only see many identical buildings in front. As a messenger, I knocked each possible frontdoor one by one during hot weather, which seemed like an effortless act, however somehow it also reflected the uncertain life status of those early Singapore immigrants who explored the land as frontiers.
This video depicts the vanishing figures of Kinmen emigrants who migrated toward the South East by comprising multi-channeled scenery shots, and is narrated in a foreign explore’s viewpoint with the background sound of urban noises collected at the site.
