Site: Commemorating 1911-2011, Hong Kong.

In order to commemorate the June 4th incident, the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre and Community Cultural Development Center in Hong Kong joined together for the organization of this performance art event. Based on the organizer’s proposed theme of the June 4th Movement, I was inspired to further extend on issues of social moment, society, and history, and the relations between faith and path. Can time be used to measure the weight that social movements have in history or memory? How should we go about making our actions into movements? Why are social movements needed and who are they needed by? Is it due to faith? Or is it regarded as a path?

When a movement has reached a certain stage, with society under a specific ambiance, we are pulled tightly by the feeling in the air, the ideas, and the ideology, with our decisions and the results closely intertwined. This link is expressed through ropes that are tied to one another. From afar or up-close, we are all tied together. When I pull you, you can choose not to move and exert force to fight back. However, no matter what your response is, you are then engaged in a relationship with me. When you pull the rope attached to me, if I move, it would not just be me moving. Any movement in any part of this will cause impacts to more than just one person, and the deciding factors are not just based on an individual. Regardless of how we tug and pull, we are dwelling in this setting, as we are unable to sever ties from the outside world.
