The memory of being a child and obsessed with finding the location of “Taiwan” on world maps and globes is still easy to be recalled. This long, narrow, oval land shapes the identification proof of existence of oneself. The shape and its different color from the land next to it provides a superior identity and a sense of proud of growing up in this island, in the same time making an emotionally declaration of being independent, in the most shallow way to present one's loyalty to her country.

Map being a guide to the world, it tries to involve the appearance of the world and present the imagination of time and space, in the same time showing the hidden ideology and the division of powers on one printed paper. With a comprehended and eternal pattern, it becomes a Formosa machine that lives in everyone's head.

By replicating the world map that indicates areas and borders, the process of printing, drawing borders, naming locations, alters the map into a full Taiwanese ocean shipping vocabulary list referring a combination of capitalism and the great sentiment of a voyage. Six full size sketches narrate the personal memories of the earth's surface, the shape of the island, the obsession with oceans, the basked ditch covers, and the flattened rats on the street. Reading different symbol system through a cropped and recombined map, this work re-measures the world one used to know, making personal experience another referable geometry coordinate of time and space.
