Human civilization began with written words, which differentiated us from animals and made us the dominant species in the world. In school, the role of a teacher is to guide students to the right way, to teach them the necessary knowledge, and to help them when they have doubts. Therefore, I started this project with “written words” by asking students to write down a word which was meaningful to them on the study sheet and to explain why they chose the word. Later, I asked them to write the word upside down in calligraphy and filmed the whole process of them writing with an ink brush. The fourth-graders had never taken a calligraphy class in school before.
