The artwork is inspired by the homework “Mood Diary” assigned to fourth-graders when I was their mentor teacher. I scanned the five-star diaries (five-star was given to students with best performance in their assignment), printed them out, and extracted some parts from the assignment. The five stars symbolized how I examined, valued, and judged their works based on my own preference while it also meant how students met my expectation. Grading may be tiring, but it allows teacher to evaluate students on one’s own standard. Like a double-edged sword, the power is both alluring and illusionary when both the empowered and the empowerer are fascinated by it.
