"Do you know that every encounter is a reunion after a long separation? "
Running Stitch: Kathmandu is the work I did during my residency in Kathmandu, Nepal in 2018. It continues my artistic concern towards the heterogeneous fields found in urban fringe areas, and includes a series of art projects about searching for the local gods/spirits.
I composed three fable poems about the reincarnation based on my field research. By keeping wandering the streets and narrow lanes and photographing the daily life of local residents, I aimed to make the natural phenomena (the holy river, the earth, and the air) seem more abstract through these street snapshots. The images in the video are cut and juxtaposed in vertical position with the lines in poems shown on the screen synchronically. By doing so, the work attempts to surpass the general characteristics of linear-timeline-based videos, and co-write a collection of videopoetry dedicated to the nature with the local residents.
