The title of “Courbet!” series is phonetic similar to two words in Chinese. One is phonetic similar to Gustave Courbet’s name, and the other is close to “Queer”. In this series, I try to connect human desires and the forms of sculpture and try to show the different cognitions after the connection. Moreover, I employ the sports field images as the pedestals. After combining the sculptures and the pedestal images, I found these works represent the distorted policies of coming Ministries of Culture and Physical Education in post-modern context. Visually, it seems that my works represent the Greek sculptural style, a style focuses on concept of form of beauty. However, actually, they are representation of politics and powers.
The sculptural objects are independent exist, and refer to sculpture itself. However, the symbols of figure alienate the sculptures themselves. Therefore, my sculptures become the “others” of their original meanings. The female figures in my works represent the aesthetics of our era, and also reveal the over imagination of our desire. The nude and naked in the contemporary sculpture overthrown the form aesthetic and connect form aesthetic to the real world.
In Modernism era, the aesthetics of nude are almost standstill. However, the naked, the bodily desire and Epicureanism continually renew our aesthetic bodies and desire images. There are spiritual, physical, thought and behavioral differences when we try to divide the levels between pornography and desire. Nowadays, desire itself could be the object for art reflection. If viewers own the abstractly reflection abilities, then they may observe the plastic ability on connotation by linking up the sculptural figures in conscious. If views only own the sensual intuition and imagination, they may connect to their desires not to the forms. If they own none of above, they may find out the disconnecting of the contents and respective exist of every individual figure. In any case, they offer the related thinks between some desires and forms.
