Dionysus' Hangover was made for CLOSE TO YOU International Puppet Festival Taipei 2012, curated by Shih Pei-yu, taking place at non-theatrical spaces for presenting experimental puppet performance and object theatre.

In Dionysus' Hangover, River Lin hosts the last dinner for audience, playing Dionysus-the god of wine in Greek mythology, with a bottle of wine as his penis as well as the mouth, tearing bread just like Jesus did. At the end of performance, Dionysus takes off his dress (skin), sacrificing himself on the altar.

This performance was inspired by the Moon Wine Bar venue to develop a site-specific work. For River Lin, in western semiotics, wine and bread as Christian metaphor could be interpreted as blood and flesh. Wine features in transformative ritual process as common to both Jesus and Dionysus.

It therefore serves as the main idea of the work.
