The objects which must be sold.
The objects which cannot be purchased.

Clothes are what keep us warm and protect our bodies. Clothes not only cover part of the body but also decorate it like beautiful wrappings, giving us plenty of dreams to change our lives. If we see clothes as wrappings, the delicate fabric becomes heavy and complicated because of what they signify. For me, clothes are so close and intimate to the body that they even share the same warmth and memory. Each article of clothing we used to have, from a child’s size to a grown-up’s one, is like a story in an autobiography. They may be worn and out of fashion, but for me, to get rid of them is as merciless and tormenting as to destroy my autobiography.

Therefore, I have decided to take photos of these clothes retiring from their posts to memorize them and to create stories of their own. Not For Sale is one of the works featuring “all the clothes I have owned.” The work includes three parts: the first is about the photos of all my clothes now, 246 in total; the second part is to collect the price tags of all the clothes I have owned since I was a child and put them into a dress; the third is a chipao (also known as cheongsam) stitched with many clothing labels, while the clothing labels come from the 246 clothes.

From an artistic perspective, they are the works “not for sale” and “cannot be bought.” In the work, the price-tag dress and chipao are the only two without a price. It is my intentional decision not to bring the work to the market. The rest of the 246 clothes are not for sale. They represent the abstract memories which can neither be purchased nor erased.
