The work is based on my imagination of Nature and the belief “writing is like a self-made product.” The writing becomes with One Hundred Stories of the Sea, while one chapter “Seaing” is developed into a poetic digital installation. The text-based creation process is similar to a theatre production. In the prophecy of the work, humans cultivate landscape in the overexploited world. The poetic idea reveals my helpless question about the global exploitation.
“Seaing” shows the unrealistic courage and persistence of the foolish old man who tried to move the mountains as described in the tale. In the work, I imagine that in the near future humans are still dependent on the highly-consumed energy resources and have suffered several inevitable global natural disasters. Centuries later, the behavior patterns of the new age are based on environment protection and recreation. The idea of “Seaing” is adopted to balance sea level rise. People periodically bring a basin of sea water home, regulating the temperature by evaporation. After the basin is dried, people will repeat the process, again and again. Sea becomes the domestic pet. Everyone now has their own “seaing” styles. The scene in my work is the place where someone lives alone. Every week, he buys the fresh Arctic Ocean water from the market and takes care of the sea with LED light and other artificial tools. Spending the hours which he cannot go out with electric power consumption, he cradles the sea when he wants to look at the sea. The sea will faithfully offer you with its visual scenery. The small basin of sea not only brings relaxation and refreshment, but the misunderstood belief that he is saving the Earth…
