In his new piece “Iron Wood,” Wu shifts our attention to the metaphors illustrated in daily objects and aims at engraving personal memories through them. He first began by collecting deforested trees off the streets and all types of iron tools that we are exposed to in daily life. By cutting, restructuring and deviating these objects from their practical functions, the transformations they undergo render the dynamic tensions produced during the maker’s sculpting process. The utilized materials, iron and wood, are analogous to those used in manual tools, which also reflect his memories of the environment he grew up in.
