‘Thaïndophiliviet’ is a made-up word comprising the Thai, Philippine, Indonesian and Vietnamese letters. The commencement of the plan is derived from the observation of the shifting population structure in Taiwan. Thus, the plan started with the research of the anthropology in Taiwan, and further studies the Go-South Policy as well as the Foreign Direct Labor Policy in the 90’s in Taiwan. Through the observation in our society, the popularity of a foreign language usually reflects the actual economic and political force of the foreign country. For instance, English is popularly learned by Taiwanese because of the gigantic economic benefits as well as the vision and social scale structured with the language.
The cooperation with The Cube is aimed at exploring the value of the structuring system. The initial period of the plan is based in The Cube as a guidance center. The contemporary art communities and the native residence will be invited to study the language of the Southeast Asia Countries. The purpose is to inspect the conditions of languages while they are not connected with their native cultures. Furthermore, the activity also presents how languages presenting the power relationships among different groups in the contemporary society. Through the languages of the foreign direct labors, a later creation will be conducted to explore the aesthetic construction of contemporary art as well as the executors.
