In the world we are living in, truth and meaning have become invalid. The world is reaching the border, hesitating to get away from the old times and suffering a sense of helplessness when it is beyond the limit of Modernist absoluteness. Truth is ambivalent while target is unclear. Everything is ambiguous. It is an era in-between, where everything is in-between.
I base my concept on the physical quality of “entropy” to discuss and explore the new energy of a balanced “in-between.” It includes the tension among conflicting forces, competition and balance among people, confusion between entry and exit, and ambiguity among concepts. The work not only features a space of multimedia installations to visualize the struggle of the world but is also an artistic exhibit extending its social concern. During the exhibition, I have placed several seesaws around Taipei City and continuously documented how the work interacted with people and the surroundings. When people go up and down to connect themselves with the seesaw, a space in-between is thus established. Like a child’s game, hierarchy is removed. No one will always stay up or down. It is constantly in-between.
