The origins of “THAITAI Exhibition” began a few years ago with the encounter of several artists in New York. Their friendship gradually led to the formation of an art and cultural exchange project between the two countries where these artists reside. Inspired by the concept of friendship expanding into further cultural exchange, Chou’s project aims to stimulate our imagination towards acknowledging the potential interactions between local enterprises and art institutions. Similar to his former projects, the artist introduced alternative methods for collaboration between corporations, art institutions, laborers, writers, and bureaucratic organizations etc., proffering alternative benefits for the participants of the art project through the operation of contemporary art and design. The “TEMCO” project is the proposal of a one-year contract by the artist through alternative marketing, whereupon the local enterprise, TEMCO, agrees to sponsor the art institution, BACC, with a year’s supply of TEMCO paint. Aside from displaying the tripartite agreements between TEMCO, BACC and the artist, the general visual layout for the exhibition project is designed in the patterns of the handbags which were presented as gifts to Taiwanese artists from the Thai duo artists, Jiandyin.
