Tseng Chien-Ying

PROFILE

TSENG, Chien-Ying was born in 1987 in Nantou. Tseng received his Master of Fine Arts from the Taipei National University of the Arts in 2013. He currently lives and works in Taipei, Taiwan. Tseng starts from the traditional oriental techniques with the integration of current contemporary life experience and popular culture in his painting. The artist devotes himself to exploring the possibility of traditional materials or painting languages fused into contemporary practices. By presenting the psychological state through the depiction of human senses, Tseng investigates the discomfort of the psychological body or the sense of contradiction in social life. He combines the seemingly exquisite and delicate scenes in the paintings with elements of cruelty, absurdity, and void to highlight the hidden violence in society suffered by individuals. From the absurdity in the imagery of Tseng’s works, he attempts to ponder the significance of human existence in the debate between spirituality and the material world through the analysis and review of the faculty world.

He received“Grantee of Asia Culture Council”(2017)  and nominated in “Golden Melody Award”for album design category.

His works have shown at several exhibitions such as “2020 Taiwan Biennial: Subzoology”, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Taichung, “Spectrosynthesis II”, BACC & Sunpride Foundation, Bangkok, etc.
