How do we participate through the absence from the scene? How dose scenes function from locations to everyone’s screen? Through strategies of re-enactment, “Chair Fortification” reconstructs one of the icons form 318 student movement in Taiwan and brings out questions about social-techno participation. Being physically absent from the event, how can participants extend and transform the experience through aesthetic? The form and strategy have been carried as a delayed residue from the protest, moving in and out of various spaces. Thinking of locality, real-time participation or latency, and Internet memes, this video work is in conversation with tactical strategy of functionality and aesthetical decision in between social and exhibited spaces.
