Artist Statement:
Every time when a performance art piece takes place in an enclosed space, artists always make it like a real “performance.” The space thus becomes a theatre where art is “performed.” In Majestic Olive Soap, I try to shatter the association. I walked among the viewers. I was the artist, a viewer, and an outsider. Staying in the crowd, I picked up the knife to peel the soap – sometimes even above viewers’ shoulders. The green soap scraps were scattered around the floor with a slight aroma of fragrance. Through an ordinary but yet unusual skill, I took viewers back to our daily life.
